Posted: September 1st, 2011 | Author: dk | Filed under: Design, Typography | 14 Comments »

ISSUE #15 // Experimental deals with experimental design strategies in typography and graphic design. This issue presents projects incorporating the accident into the design process, works based on mistakes and inaccuracy, fonts that derive from a concept or a system – in the end work that experiments or goes unconventional ways in design.

FRANK CHIMERO // is an illustrator and graphic designer in Missouri, USA. His clients include the New York Times, Business Week, Starbucks, and Good Magazine. Frank tries to recapture the sense of optimism, playfulness and heart characteristic of the mid-century. He believes in simplicity, honesty, humor, enthusiasm and air guitar solos. He’s particularly interested in the creative process, and how to integrate happiness into it, for both his own enjoyment and the delight of the audience. Sometimes, he teaches design foundations and typography at Missouri State University.

About
Un Sedicesimo is a typographical measure: a sixteen-pages-binding, but is also a magazine! Seventeen centimetres width for twentyfour height. But it’s not a traditional magazine, it hasn’t got an editorial office nor a subject nor a fixed design.

Each issue has a different author, whose job is to create a sixteen-pages-long project.
Un Sedicesimo will be a magazine different at each time, from the headline to the colophon.
It will become a sort of gallery on paper, which proposes a new personal exhibition every two months, six times a year.
In short, it’s not about speaking of graphics, but making it.

Un Sedicesimo starts with many authors ready to go: Steven Guarnaccia, Moreno Gentili, Martí Guixé, Leonardo Sonnoli, Francesco Dondina, Federico Maggioni, Daniel Eatock, Paul Cox, Italo Lupi, Massimo Pitis, Gianluigi Toccafondo, Giulio Iacchetti, Gianluigi Colin and other artists, graphic designers, illustrators, students (why not?), writers and cooks too.

About
SLANTED.de is a weblog, which has typography and layout as its topic. Founded in 2004, it has grown into an important design portal and discussion forum in the German-speaking area.
The typography magazine SLANTED, in existence since 2005 and parallel to the weblog, is published quarterly and combines the sectors typography, lay-out, illustration and photography. It attends to the topics in greater detail and more intensive. Both blog and magazine encourage and call for a debate on these subjects as an experimental field. It is also about getting to know them, seeing them in a different light, and to reflect on them.
